๐Ÿ”ฌ My Research Projects & Publications

Welcome to my research page, and thank you for your interest in my work. I am deeply committed to advancing the field of neurosurgery, with a special focus on deep brain stimulation (DBS), spinal injuries, and minimally invasive spine procedures. My research is driven by the goal of improving patient outcomes, optimizing surgical techniques, and integrating new technologies into clinical practice.

๐Ÿง  Current Research Focus

1. Advancements in Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS)

I am exploring the use of DBS for treating movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease and essential tremor. My research investigates programming strategies, patient selection criteria, and post-operative outcomes to optimize therapy.

2. Traumatic Spinal Cord Injuries: Predicting Recovery

This project focuses on identifying clinical and imaging biomarkers that predict functional recovery in patients with spinal cord injuries. We aim to personalize rehabilitation and surgical strategies using these insights.

3. Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery (MISS) Techniques

I am evaluating the safety, efficacy, and cost-effectiveness of minimally invasive techniques for treating degenerative spine diseases. This includes the use of tubular retractors, endoscopy, and percutaneous fusion technologies.

Why I No Longer Trust Etihad: A Personal Travel Experience Compared to Air France

✈️ A Personal Travel Experience: Why I’m Choosing Air France Over Etihad I usually travel with Air France , my favorite airline, especially for trips to the USA and Canada . Their service has always been consistent, generous, and respectful — even when I had small issues or extra baggage. But on May 26 , I was flying to Abu Dhabi , and since it wasn’t a usual destination for me, I booked my flight with Etihad Airways — using my Air France miles through their Flying Blue app. At the time of booking, Air France provided me with: 25 kg checked baggage One carry-on One personal item All good so far. But the experience that followed at Cairo Airport (Terminal 2) was something I’ve never encountered in all my years of flying. ๐Ÿ˜“ The Airport Incident When I arrived at the Etihad counter, I informed the supervisor, Ms. Sama , that I had extra bags already at the airport . These were staff bags I needed to take with me. However, the bags were locked , and airport personnel...

Just 5 Minutes of Walking Changed My Brain—Here’s What Happened

By Dr. Mahmood M. Elsayed, MD Neurosurgeon  | Researcher | Brain & Spine Health Advocate   |  MME Foundation  We all want to be healthier, sharper, and more focused—but if you're like me, you're juggling work, family, and everything in between. That’s why a recent study caught my eye: just 5 minutes of brisk walking can measurably improve brain function. Five minutes? I had to try it. ๐Ÿงช What the Science Says A new study in Age and Aging tracked over 500 older adults and found that short bursts of moderate-intensity activity , like brisk walking, were linked to improvements in: ๐Ÿง  Executive function (planning & focus) ๐Ÿ”„ Processing speed (how quickly you think) ๐Ÿ’พ Working memory (holding short-term info) Even going from 1 minute to 6 minutes of activity per day showed measurable results— especially for people who were usually sedentary. ๐ŸŒค What I Felt After Just One Walk I took the study to heart. I laced up my walking shoes, ...

5 Health Habits That Changed My Life — And Can Change Yours Too

Discover five science-backed health habits that improved my energy, focus, and well-being. Learn how to start small, stay consistent, and find the tools that make it easy. ๐Ÿง  Introduction: Why This Matters A few years ago, I was constantly tired, anxious, and out of sync with my body. Despite reading a lot about wellness, I felt overwhelmed and unmotivated. It wasn’t until I started applying small, realistic health habits consistently that I saw a real shift—not only in how I felt physically, but in how I approached life. In this post, I’ll share the five habits that made the biggest difference in my journey—plus practical tools (including some affiliate resources I genuinely recommend) to help you get started today. 1. ๐ŸŒž Starting the Day with Light & Movement Getting morning sunlight and moving my body—even for just 10 minutes—reset my energy and mood. It helped improve my sleep and sharpen my focus for the rest of the day. Try this: A short walk after waking up Stretching...
